Surat : Residents of Surat are eagerly looking forward to the grand transformation of the Dumas Sea Face Development Project, a major coastal redevelopment initiative being executed by the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) along the popular Dumas beach. The most vital portion of the project—Zone 1—has achieved nearly 75% completion and is expected to open to the public by December, according to updates presented during the Municipal Corporation’s recent general board meeting.
During the meeting, Corporator Himanshu Raulji requested a detailed update on the project’s status. In response, Deputy Commissioner Dinesh R. Guruv shared a comprehensive progress report, confirming that construction activity is moving swiftly.
A 102-Hectare Coastal Makeover Across Four Zones
The ambitious Dumas Sea Face Project spans 102 hectares and covers a 5-kilometre stretch of coastline. To streamline development, the area has been divided into four unique zones:
- Zone 1: Urban Zone
- Zone 2: Public Space Eco Zone & Walkway
- Zone 3: Forest Eco-Tourism & Wellness Centre
- Zone 4: Redevelopment of Dumas Port
Among these, Zone 1 is the heart of the development, designed to offer a blend of recreation, tourism, and community spaces.
Modern Facilities Planned Under Zone 1
Once completed, Zone 1 of the Dumas Sea Face will feature:
- Dedicated kids’ play area
- Multi-purpose event ground
- 3,800 sq. m. urban beach
- Yoga zone and relaxation spaces
- 52,000 sq. m. public horticulture area
- Beachfront café
- 750-metre walkway and cycle track
- Golf cart track for effortless mobility
- INS Surat Warship Plaza
- Arrival plaza and surface parking facilities
The combination of entertainment amenities and eco-friendly spaces aims to position Dumas as Surat’s newest tourism and lifestyle destination.
Iconic Sculptures and Urban Beach Under Development
A key highlight of Zone 1 is the construction of nine artistic sculptures, designed to become iconic elements of the rejuvenated sea face. Alongside this, development of the urban beach, horticulture zone, and walkway is progressing rapidly across the 12.86-hectare area.
Officials confirmed that work is being carried out at full speed to meet the December launch timeline.
Investment and Progress Breakdown
The total investment earmarked for Zone 1 stands at ₹257.66 crore, split into two packages:
- Package-1: ₹174.22 crore
- Package-2: ₹83.44 crore
Out of this, work worth ₹128.46 crore under Package-1 has already been completed, reflecting significant progress toward project completion.
